Are you going to have an IELTS or TOEFL speaking test soon? Job interview? A presentation at school or in a business meeting? In our previous blog we spoke about 3 things to avoid during a speaking test, now is the time for us to introduce you to the 3 things to do during a speaking test.

Confidence

You need to be confident, friendly, and have eye-contact with the examiner. The body language has a high importance to convince your examiner that you know what you are saying. If you’re going to look nervous and look at the floor all the time, you’re not going to do very well in your presentation, job interview, or even language speaking exams such as IELTS & TOEFL. It’s very important to present yourself with confidence. You’re going to walk into that speaking test, and know you’re going to do well and be confident.

High Level Vocabulary

The most important thing next is your vocabulary. Do not use simple, easy, and boring low-level words. When you are presenting a project or idea for example, always try to use high level words in order to impress your examiners and to hook the attention of your audience. Practice using high level vocabulary. If you have an exam or a speaking test, the best thing to do is, look at the list of topics which they might ask about, like food, and learn high vocabulary words about food that you can mention during that test. Try to enrich your vocabulary for each topic and practice talking about it.

Practice & Expand your ideas

Before any speaking test or presentation, practice, and make sure you expand your answers. If you answer questions with yes or no the examiner won’t be able to judge your English nor the project you just presented, therefore, you need to expand your answers and give reasons and examples. You need to find the answer which isn’t too short, and not too long, it should be somewhere in the middle. Another example, if you are an IELTS or TOEFL speaking test taker, and if you are asked what’s your favorite food? You can say ‘’ I love Indian cuisine ‘’ and give examples of dishes you like and how they’re made.

Now that we have made it to the end, I would like to wish you good luck and please let me know if these strategies worked out for you!
